Living Mulch: Using Native Plants to Beat the Weeds

Shredded bark or hardwood is usually employed to cover the ground between plants, help suppress weeds, and conserve water. This tidiness comes at a cost, however, and can also be harmful in our gardens. Skip the back-breaking work and use plants instead! Low growing native plants can serve the same purpose as mulch, and are more beautiful, and ecologically valuable.
